Holy Light, Holy Darkness
Yes, You are the Light of the World.
How I love Your encouraging, colorful rainbow.

Your light is triumphantly reflected
by the setting full moon over the blanket of fog.

Your warmth at the end of day shines through the porch railing to remind us
You are always with us.

But you are also with us in the darkness,
where we rest, watch and wait,
where Your mystery draws us inward.
You are in the chaos, from which order and life come—stars from black holes, new life in the womb.
While you dazzle us with the vast palate of colors Your light brings,
You also have blessings waiting for us in the darkness.

“I will give you the treasures of darkness
And riches hidden in secret places. “ Isaiah 45:3
We arrive in this world from the womb of darkness;
we live our lives in the fog of unknowing—the lives and times that came before us,
the dark matter of the heavens,
the complexities of Your creation we struggle to understand.

You are our Companion on this journey out of darkness,

as we wait and stumble, sit with unknowing.
May we add our little spark of light

and our “Yes” to Mary’s “Yes;” —
yes to welcoming each of your beloved children,
yes to new dreams,
yes to bringing Your peace and radiance into this world.
